Balkan Reloaded - This time Albania
is the target. It looks, Jani Pahi forgot the Bulgarian
thieves who stole his cameras and money in the last
Balkan trip and he'd like to explore the most inhospitable
region in Europe - the Albanian North Alps. The rivers
are first descents, chosen by few pictures of lucky
travelers who survived the Alps. 9000 feet high peaks,
bunkers, bumpy roads, gnarly rivers, friendly people
and bloodfeud - Do you

on the river Sajo on April 19-20, 2003. >more>
2002 Pre-Worlds Finals, videos and
a short report. First is the winner of Women
Squirt category, more follows.

Soca, Slovenia, Trnovo-Abseilstrecke gallery.
I'm sure, this short but sometime dangerous run is the most
beautiful in Slovenia. The run is infamous because of siphons,
undercut rocks but in low water it should be a perfect choice
for advanced paddlers. >more>
2002 UKRAJNA, Prut, Prut brook, White
Tisa. Prut is a good river for intermediate paddlers,
other brooks are a warming-up trip only. Cheap gasoline, poor
people, rich gangsta's, clear water, dirty banks and good
runs. Updated gallery. >more>

| Are you looking for whitewater? |
| ...Welcome to Hungary,
the home of the flat water. You wont find any whitewater on
Hungary. The only exception is a famous freestyle wave on
river Sajo at Kazincbarcika-Berente/Nort Hungary and one small
creek wich has enough water at floods in every 3 years to
paddle at grade 4-5, called Szinva. There are rumors about
runs on brooks of Pilis mountain but only after heavy rain.
Small groups of ww infected Hungarians paddle the rivers of
Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria, Romania, Croatia and Ukraina.
Few words on the Hungarian paddlers
The ww community of Hungary is very small. There aren't more
than 4-5 paddlers all over the country who has the experience
to paddle a Grade 5 river or play in average holes. Others
paddle the same, well known easy Grade 2-3 (rarely 4) rivers,
like Soca or Salza. The hordes of Hun weekend warriors with
inflatables overcrowd the well known commercial runs but only
few is brave enough to take a kayak and be a paddler.
BTW, we are developing slowly. We participated on the Worlds
2001 the result was quite good, we were better than the Nepali
team!:-)))) Not bad, hey!
About me:
I began to paddle in 2000 at age of 32. I'm a skinny IT worker
without too much time but somehow I became a solid Grade3-4
paddler on the Hungarian Pusta (Pusta is not a river but the
ugly lowland in the middle of the country, sorry:-). Drop
me a mail if you're interested in any ww paddling related
question around Hungary. I'm lurking on forums everywhere,
thanks for every contributor who helped me to be a better
paddler and tolerated my language:-)
Reflections and invitations to weekend paddling or ski trips
are welcoming here. |
